Does preaching essentially mean changing people’s faith?
So does preaching essentially mean changing people's faith from the material things to Krishna and devotion yes of course when we say infusing faith in people so the word faith often is used in the narrow sense specific sense of religious faith or spiritual faith that's what we say when we give faith to people that is faith in Krishna it basically means whatever they have faith in we take it from there and bring it to Krishna this can be either by rejection or it can be by connection so rejection or connection means you can say stop drinking alcohol that's rejection but Prabhupada did otherwise Prabhupada also said stop, he didn't say stop taking drugs but he said that what was asked, what is Vaikuntha like what is the bliss of Vaikuntha like what did Prabhupada say it's like an ocean of LSD ocean of LSD ocean of LSD, hey I want to go there, I want to drink that so if somebody thinks taking drugs is what is the source of pleasure ocean of drugs so what we are doing is that at one level people do have to give up drugs but when you tell somebody to give up something they feel deprived by that so what we need to do is that whatever is people's deepest experience that is their experience of Krishna that experience may not take them to Krishna but that is their experience of Krishna what is there so attractive in a drug or in an alcohol actually it is a spark of Krishna that is manifesting over them but it is manifesting in such a way that it is going to take them away from Krishna see everything attractive comes from Krishna but everything attractive doesn't take one to Krishna because that may be tamas, that may be rajas, that may be sattva so we appreciate drinking alcohol also there is some relief but it is temporary, it comes at a great cost so there is a Christian who has written a book called the taste of wine is the proof that God loves us ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha the taste of wine wine tastes so good the God who has given us this wine he must be good ha ha ha ha now what has happened over here everything is ridiculous but for personal things wine is delicious he is thinking God's love is coming over here so we accept yes wine may taste good we don't reject that but God's love can be experienced in a far fuller and richer way through the process of bhakti so we focus more on connection where your faith is you experience something over there but what you experience there you can experience much much more by practicing bhakti we could say it is a elevation of people's faith thank you.
