Gauranga Shata Nama 03 – His mischief charms his mother’s heart and our heart too
Gauranga shukha naam stanza 3 naam ananda chapala balaka matra bhakta brahmanda vadana tarki kautoka anurakta so here in the name of lord gauranga the meditation continues naam ananda naam ananda so ananda is joy, naam is the name so naam ananda usually means that one who took joy in the naam like brahmananda is one who gets joy in brahman so naamananda is one who gets joy in naama actually to be naamanandis is the aspiration of all of us because if we can become naamanandis then we will stop being indriyanandis stop being sense gratifiers and that's necessary for us to come out of entanglement and to move towards liberation and chaitanya demonstrated through his past times the highest level of naamananda and he would chant and dance and the devotees would start kirtans with the mahaprabhu would go into extraordinary ecstasy chanting the names of the lord so naamananda he would demonstrate that and not only would he demonstrate that this followers would also demonstrate that and in that way everybody would be inundated with ecstasy through the chanting of the names of the lord naamananda here the past times go on sequentially right from his appearance so in this particular context in this flow naamananda refers to his childhood past time of crying whenever he would be crying if the neighborhood ladies would chant the holy names then he would stop crying so normally if something delights us normally when we are unhappy we cry and when something delights us we stop crying and become happy chaitanya mahaprabhu by stopping crying as soon as he would hear the holy names and becoming happy and hearing those holy names demonstrated that right from his childhood he delighted in naamananda so his taste for the naama and the ananda that he was getting in the naama in the holy names of krishna was not something that he had to cultivate intellectually or by practice rather it was a central part of his very being right from his earliest days so naamananda this was extraordinary about him but then extraordinarily endearing but other features were also endearing as a small child he was restless he would do various kinds of naughty activities and through those naughty activities he would charm others hearts if a child is frivolous and mischievous and playful and naughty then that makes the child all the more lovable for the parents so that lord was matrabhakta he was servant of his mother to the extent that he worshipped his mother how? Chaitanya Mahaprabhu he later on took sanyas and he renounced his family including his mother so we wonder how can that be matrabhakti but we see that it was not dereliction of duty but the call of a higher duty that made him do that and still he was he was himself he demonstrated his loving heart when he told after he came to Shantipur when Shri Mata came to meet him he said that under the spell of some madness I took sanyas and I left you if you want I will come and stay with you Shri Mata herself told that no you are a sanyasi if you stay with me then people will criticise so now you have taken sanyas you should stay as a sanyasi so please don't go to Vrindavan go to Jagannath Puri because Vrindavan is so far away I will never hear about you but Jagannath Puri is like another room in our house itself devotees keep going for pilgrimage there and you will come to know about I will get to know your news so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu immediately agreed the plan which he had cherished for for so many long hours and days and weeks and months and years to visit Vrindavan he just put it on hold actually he didn't want to just visit Vrindavan he wanted to reside in Vrindavan and that plan was not something he just put on hold he actually abandoned the plan just to please his mother so Matra Bhakta even in his childhood although sometimes he was naughty at other times he worshipped with respect to his mother and even his naughtiness was the way he had a very loving relationship with his mother Brahmandavadana Tarkhi Kautukanurakta Brahmandavadana now Chaitanya Mahaprabhu sometimes performed pastimes that Krishna had also performed although in his later life Chaitanya Mahaprabhu primarily demonstrated the mood of a devotee in his childhood sometimes he acted the same way as Krishna did so one of those pastimes which are mentioned which is mentioned pastime is mentioned in the Gauranga Sita Naam but we don't find a elaboration of this pastime in the standard books Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Chaitanya Mangala so Brahmandavadana he showed the universe in his mouth just as Krishna had shown the universe now we know that Lord Chaitanya did show the universe to Advaita Acharya later on also came and saw it so this is Krishna showed the universe later but also in his childhood so this particular Gauranga Sita Naam this particular name in the Gauranga Sita Naam Chaitanya Mahaprabhu showed his suggests that he showed his Vishwaroopa even in the childhood so Brahmandavadana Tarkhi Tarkhi is logic Tarkha is logic so he would sometimes try to use sweet logic by which he would try to get the things that he wanted and in that way he would playfully reveal his brilliance so for example once he went and sat on dirty pots which had already been used and then when Shachi Mata came to know about it she came running, what is this virus sitting on dirty pots so at that time very sweetly he gave the logic that but how can anything be dirty actually the whole concept of something being dirty and something being pure is an illusion so he tried to in this way speak the philosophy of impersonalism and further he said whatever I touch actually it becomes pure so here he revealed his supreme position so the Acharyas explained that the biographers of Lord Chaitanya explained that he was exhibiting the mode of the Tatra who taught the philosophy of impersonalism at Dwaitavada so as a small child to speak such logic is extraordinary but he spoke it and Lord Chaitanya or rather his mother responded by saying that oh if everything is one then the same mud is there on the ground and same mud there is in a mud pot or a mud plate in the mud plate you can eat food from it you can drink water from it but when it is on the ground you cannot do anything with it so although they are of the same substance they are different then Chaitanya Mahaprabhu became very pleased with his mother and he said oh mother you have freed me from a great misconception now there also Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is the knower of everything he is the person who frees everyone from misconceptions but here also he is demonstrating Patra Bhakti by speaking in a way that ensures that his mother speaks the correct Siddhanta and thus his mother's glory is established she is not just some ordinary lady she also knows philosophy so Brahmanda Vadana Tarki Kautuka Anuradha Kautuka Anuradha so Kautuka Kautuki that means to do wonderful things mysterious things so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was such a sweet person that he would perform extraordinary activities of joking and pranking and making pranks by which he would charm the hearts of others and in this way he would make life relishable for everyone this applied that he create new mellows of happiness especially in his childhood playful pastimes he would actually bring great relish to the hearts of everyone who saw him as a child such is the lord who gives us the gift of the holy name and this is the lord whom we serve by chanting and relishing the holy name thank you.
