Gita 07.04 – Deconstruct the world to concentrate on Krishna
Thank you 1.4 Krishna is saying earth, water, fire, air ether, mind, intelligence and ego these are so bhinnah prakriti rashtradhah bhinnah prakriti rashtradhah prakriti rashtradhah is the eightfold divisions of my nature bhinnah can mean two different things bhinnah can either apply to me then it becomes my separated nature my separated energy as Prabhupada translated or bhinnah can apply to prakriti where it becomes these are the eightfold divisions of my prakriti so that means the eightfold can apply to prakriti or the bhinnah may prakriti rashtradhah bhinnah can apply either to prakriti or to me so prakriti is differentiated bhinnah into these eight divisions or prakriti which is my separated energy is has these eight ingredients whichever way we want to take it so now the point is that the material nature is just made of these eight things and these eight things are actually not very attractive in and of themselves if you just see a lump of earth or a glass of water or some fire nobody falls in love with these things so when we are attracted to someone the initial attraction may be because of the bodily appearance but it is actually the person within, the spark of life within that attracts us and it is the spark of life within which is what we are ourselves are and what the other person is and sankhya this verse points towards sankhya, Krishna will talk a little bit more about sankhya in 13.6 and 7 when he will explicate this 8 fold division into a 24 fold division and there the point of analysis of sankhya is to de-romanticize the world our sensory vision imagines the world to be a place of great enjoyment the objects of this world to be sources of great pleasure but when we become when we actually try to enjoy these objects they are temporary and the pleasure that they offer is peripheral and fleeting and unfulfilling its peripheral to our core being and when we understand this then we start seeking higher pleasure unfortunately we don't understand this because we are attracted to other objects, ok the object I had did not give me pleasure but some other object which looks more attractive that will give me pleasure so my present cell phone is not all that great if I get a new brand that will be nicer my present car is not all that great if I get a better car my life will be enjoyable my present house is not all that great but if I get a bigger house life will be so wonderful and then we can objectify and dehumanize people also my present partner is not all that great if I just have another partner I will be happy so in that way we the surface beauty the surface charm of worldly objects keeps our quest for happiness at the horizontal level in the realm of matter but meditating that ultimately no matter how something looks it is actually temporary it is actually not going to give any lasting pleasure, meditating on this by deconstruction of this world that is done by verses such as this ultimately earth, water, fire and air are not really sources of pleasure and their combination can also not be a source of pleasure so by deconstructing the world like this we can redirect the quest for happiness from the horizontal suite to the vertical rise that means instead of seeking pleasure in material things we start seeking it by raising our consciousness and seeking it in spiritual things, seeking it ultimately in Krishna and the process of remembrance of Krishna by chanting the holy names, by taking shelter of sacred sound vibrations enables us to easily, accessibly and joyfully raise our consciousness and propel our quest for happiness vertically and thereby gain higher happiness.
