This has been ascertained by the great sage, by the most learned people. Kavis. Uttama Shloka Guna Anuvarnam.
Glorify the Supreme Lord. Bhagavatam describes how all dharmic activities whether they be conventionally considered to be parts of Karma Yoga or Gyan Yoga or Dhyan Yoga. For example Buddhi or Chhutasya may be considered to be a part of Gyan Yoga.
Dattayo or Swishtasya means giving charity. Sacrifices may be considered to be a part of Karma Yoga. Tapasaha, austerities, may be considered to be a part of Dhyan Yoga.
But what is common to all of them is Yoga and Yoga essentially is about developing a relationship with the Supreme Lord. That relationship is ultimately a relationship of affection. And when we have affection for someone we naturally appreciate, praise, glorify, extol that person.
And with respect to Krishna, glorification is not just the result of affection but glorification also is the means to affection. That means we may not feel attracted to the Lord right now but if we glorify Him, that glorification will kindle, stimulate, attract, increase our attraction to Him. And in that way we can move forward in our journey to Him.
So we don’t have to deny our talents. We simply have to spiritualize, use them for the service in the glorification of the Lord, whatever field we are studying in. And all that glorification of the Lord through our respective vocations is possible when first of all we do glorification of the Lord directly through Sadhana Bhakti because say through attentive chanting we are glorifying the Lord because if we are calling some person’s name and if we call it distractedly, inattentively and that indicates, it communicates lack of esteem, a lack of value for that person because if we value someone, if you’re going to call our boss, we don’t call the boss and then look here and there.
If we go to, if we call the boss then we await his response and we are attentive when the response comes and we are attentive all the more so. Even if the response doesn’t come, still when we are making the call we are attentive. So when we are inattentive while chanting, we are communicating disrespect and not only that, Krishna is not just like any ordinary boss.
Krishna is all-attractive Supreme Lord and to the extent we can communicate respect or disrespect, to extent we convey to him our desire or absence of desire to connect with him and if we try to chant as attentively as possible, we can make it a desire to him and that desire for connecting with him inspires him to reciprocate by revealing himself, revealing his all-attractiveness a bit more and that attracts us to him further. So by remembering how Krishna is the goal of all our characteristics, all our qualities, all our abilities and by knowing that the central connection with Krishna will happen at the time of our meditation, we can give it the priority, the singular priority at the time of chanting at least and then with that concentrated mind, with that richness of reciprocation from the Lord, then when we engage in the daily activities, we will be able to do them with far lesser agitation, far greater focus and most importantly far greater transformation of the heart as we will realize the truths of Krishna consciousness by our own Krishna consciousness even when we are doing material things externally and we will move closer to Krishna through it all. That’s why chanting attentively is the pivot around which our endeavors to
