Hare Krishna. Whatever we are surfing for, we are ultimately surfing for Krishna.
Net surfing has become one of the most common activities done by people today for pleasure or at least relief. We are constantly searching for something good to look at, something good to read, something nice to hear if it’s podcasts or audiobooks. And thus we are all looking for stimulation.
We are innately pleasure seeking creatures and we seek the pleasure by gaining some pleasant stimulation from our outer world. And whatever was the reach of our senses in perceiving in the outer world, the internet today has increased manifold so that we can seek sensory stimuli from any and every part of the world. While seeking such stimuli, we often don’t realize that no matter how new, how illusive, how exciting a particular stimuli might be, it is going to be an anticlimax.
The best TV show, the best article, the best podcast will titillate or illuminate us for some time. But what after that, when we start searching for something else and searching for it with more desperation because our mind has become impressed, not impressed in the sense of being positively influenced, but impressed in the sense of having impressions formed in them and because of that, we feel impelled again and again to do the same activity and yet we never get any lasting pleasure. If we want real happiness, we need to direct our consciousness with Gita Wisdom.
The Bhagavad Gita explains in 1041, yad yad vibhuti mat sattvam shri madhur jitamebhava tattva devavagacchatvam mama tejo amshasambhava mama tejo amshasambhava that everything attractive manifests the spark of Krishna’s splendor. That means, whatever we are surfing for, we are actually surfing for a spark of Krishna but because we don’t know that it’s a part of Krishna, that search doesn’t take us any closer to Krishna and if we are in the dark or cold, a spark seems attractive but it has little potency to remove much darkness or remove much cold. You would rather need the full fire and the supreme fire, the fire that can never be extinguished, the fire that never goes cold, that never fails to remove cold is Krishna.
So, ultimately our heart is longing for Krishna. Unfortunately, our mind and senses misdirect us toward various other objects. When we understand that it is ultimately Krishna that we are looking for but our mind and senses are misleading and dragging us elsewhere, then we use our intelligence and our will power to redirect our consciousness toward Krishna and the process of Bhakti Yoga guides and empowers us for such redirection and once we experience the whole instead of the spark, then a whole new world of enrichment and fulfillment opens for us eternally.
