We can choose not to love Krishna, but to try to enjoy separate from Him. Because all of us have had that desire, Krishna has provided us a facility to play out that desire. It is because of His love for us, because of His respect for our free will, that He provides us an arena where we can try out our independent desires.
So we take birth in material existence and get entangled in cycle of birth and death because we want to enjoy separate from Krishna. And matter, the material world, is the arena where we can try to enjoy separate from Krishna. So our birth here is for two purposes, experimentation and rectification.
We experiment with various ways of trying to enjoy separate from Krishna. And when we find that this doesn’t give us happiness, then we rectify ourselves and we develop the desire to love and serve Krishna. And Krishna helps us internally as a super soul, externally as the guru sadhu shastra.
And by that, when we again develop the desire to love Krishna purely, we return back to Krishna to be reunited with Him for eternal life of love and happiness.
