Are tragedies in our lives such as a relative committing suicide God’s punishments on us?

.Krishna question if some tragedies happen in our life say a family member suddenly commits suicide is it that Krishna is punishing that person who has committed suicide and that Krishna is punishing the family members for not having cared for the person who has committed suicide or are basically sufferings that come unexpectedly in life Krishna’s way of punishing us and if we have been devoted could Krishna not have minimized or avoided that punishment answer it is best not to think of life’s tragedies in terms of God’s punishments Krishna is not a vengeful God he is a love full God and the purpose of whatever that happens in life is not punishment it is growth it is elevation it is education, growth in our capacity to love and growth in our capacity to live so that we can ultimately realize our nature of the atma as parts of Krishna and learn to love Krishna and go to the eternal reality where we belong so now the whole point is of thinking of something as Krishna’s punishment that stems from a very very incomplete conception of God as a judge who is out to punish people for wrongdoings but Krishna is far far more than a judge Krishna is a guide and Krishna is ultimately a lover, Krishna is present in our heart to guide us not just to judge us although judging may be one part of things that he does but that is only a very preliminary role he is most foremost a guide a mentor for us so now if somebody does something terrible like committing suicide is it Krishna’s way of punishing us, we have to understand that Krishna is not the doer of anyone’s wrongdoings in the Bhagavad Gita Krishna says in 5th chapter in 5.15 he says that I don’t accept the right or the wrong actions of anyone that that people are covered over by ignorance and because of being covered over by ignorance the living entity becomes becomes bewildered so it is ignorance that is the cause of the wrong doings of people, it is not God who is the cause so now you know sometimes it is said that not a blade of grass moves without Krishna’s will actually it is not Krishna’s will it is Krishna’s sanction will means something which Krishna wants to happen sanction means something which Krishna allows to happen because that’s what somebody wants to do so certainly if somebody has committed suicide that is not Krishna’s way of punishing, that is what that person has done because of some unresolved frustration and because of some impulsive action coming from that frustration so we shouldn’t at all think of it in terms of Krishna’s punishment because firstly Krishna’s purpose is not punishment, Krishna is a compassionate God who wants to educate and elevate and secondly because Krishna doesn’t force people to do things Krishna allows people to do things that they want to do because he has given them freedom so rather we should think that what can I learn and how can I grow in this situation so if we have that learning attitude that you will find that Krishna is there to help us, to comfort us if we connect with him through prayer, through meditation, through chanting and he will help us sense non-material warmth spiritual comfort, spiritual shelter within us that will give us solace and strength to face the problem so we shouldn’t think God is up there somewhere giving us punishment while we are down here no, God is in here right with us in our heart and he is ready to help us endure whatever problem life dishes out to us so sarvasya chaham yudhi sannirishtho Krishna is present in the heart of everyone so Krishna is not a punishing God, he is a protecting God so whatever happens it happens because of the actions that people do, so now when the people do wrong actions, Krishna is not there to punish us, Krishna is there to protect us from the wrong actions and now is it that person’s action that say somebody attempted suicide and somebody succeeded is it that Krishna is punishing that person no, it’s not a punishment, it’s an education so if a person wants to do something Krishna gives them freedom and surely Krishna is the voice of conscience, speaks to people when they want to do something wrong, don’t do this, it’s not good, but then if they do not listen to that voice, then Krishna allows that those people can Krishna allows that person to do whatever one wants to do and to endure the consequences so now we should know that suicide is not the end of life completely because we are not the body, we are the soul suicide is only the destruction of the body the soul is there and the soul will continue on its onward journey and Krishna will never abandon that soul so if Krishna were a punishing God then Krishna would have sent that person forever to hell or completely rejected that person but wherever a person goes Krishna goes with that person as as the paramatma in the heart and Krishna continues to guide that person also so Krishna gives us free will and he gives us guidance as the viveka buddhi, as the voice of conscience within us but when people neglect that voice, then Krishna is there to help us learn through the consequences that come of our actions so Krishna in that sense never abandons us, that’s very important to understand and the purpose of Krishna is not punishment but protection and education and elevation so now what about the relatives, is it that for them it’s Krishna’s punishment no no, we shouldn’t think like that whatever happens to us it’s ultimately we could say the result of our own karma that that karma may come through somebody else but somebody else’s actions but ultimately the sufferings that come in our life are because of something that we have done in the past and more important than the fact that sufferings come because of our own mistakes is that sufferings can serve to help us grow in our life so once sufferings have come and once we can’t once the clock has turned we can’t turn it back now we can’t change things so then we have to change our response, that’s the only thing that is in our power and that can be most powerfully done by connecting with Krishna’s supreme power so again rather than thinking of it as a punishment why Krishna we should see that actually Krishna is there to protect us and if we take his shelter that will benefit us and if we pray for the benefit of the person who has departed that person will also be benefited so please put aside the conception of Krishna as a punishing God because Krishna is not a punishing God, Krishna is a protecting and elevating God and we can experience his protection and elevation if we take shelter of him through Bhakti.
