CC daily 81 – M 6.1 – The expert Lord doesn’t just counter the head, but changes the heart

From our next talk onwards Chaitanya charitamrita Chapter 6 Text 1 onwards Krishnadas by Rajyoswami Begins the pastime As is the standard Begins the chapter as is standard With a prayer Sanskrit prayer offering obeisance To the central character Of that particular pastime So now till now In the two previous two chapters The central character was First was Madhavendra Puri It was the fourth chapter which we discussed Because it is not Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's activity so much that we discussed In the first, previous two chapters It is Our great devotee Madhavendra Puri For whom the lord performed a special Pastime And in the second case It was Sakshi Gopal who was offered obeisances It's interesting that The names of the brahmanas were also not mentioned In that pastime Chota Vipra and Bada Vipra Because the important point over there is that the lord Performed this pastime to attract To show mercy to his Those brahmanas So the lord is celebrated as Sakshi Gopal Now in this particular Chapter It is Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who is the central character And he will be acting In extraordinary ways to deliver Sarvambhattacharya And accordingly Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Here Offers obeisances Krishnadas Kaviraj Offers obeisances Chaitanya Mahaprabhu as the deliverer Of Sarvambhattacharya Navmitam I offer obeisances to that Gaurachandramya That lord Gaurachandra Lord Chaitanya house like a moon Kutarka Karkashashayam Kutarka Tarka is logic or argument Kutarka is bad argument Karkashashayam So his heart had become hard Because of bad logic Bad argumentation Hard heart means That actually The conclusions of bhakti were not there in the heart Rather the conclusions of impersonalism Were there in his heart Kutarka Karkashashayam Normally Our knowledge, our intelligence Our argumentation Should make us More and more convinced about Krishna And thus become attracted to him And thereby soften our heart But in the case of impersonalist their argumentation Makes them think that There is a reality other than Krishna or beyond Krishna And that's why their heart doesn't become soft towards Krishna Rather they think that Softness of heart towards Krishna Bhakti of Krishna Is a sign of That I am still in illusion Because the forms all form the illusory And If I feel emotions Towards the forms Then I am still in illusion Therefore I must give up these emotions And that's why they Although they may As a tool in the initial stages Recommend to others to worship The deity, worship the form of the lord And here we see Sarvabhattacharya also He would go to Jagannath He would go to Jagannath temple and he would worship Jagannath So it's not that they completely Wholesale reject deity worship But they reduce the deity worship To a something which is meant for People at a lower level And this way their heart becomes hard Kutarka Karkashashayam Such a hardened heart It was there What did Chetan Mahaprabhu do to him? Sarvabhaumam Sarvabhooma So we see here There is beautiful Alliteration In this particular Verse The second line has the repetition of sound Kutarka Karkashashayam And the third line has Sarvabhauma Sarvabhooma So there is not just an alliteration of sound But almost repetition of the same word But in a Slight different form With different meaning Sarvabhauma Sarvabhooma Sarvabhooma Sarvabhooma is the lord of everything Sarvabhooma is the lord of everything And Lord Chetan Mahaprabhu And there is a further repetition Bhauma Bhooma And the third line Bhakti Bhoomana Bhakti Bhoomana And to the Into the Great personality of devotion Into a great devotee So that lord So Sarvabhauma In one sense refers to One who has conquered all Direction but the lord is the person who is Truly conquered all direction Sarvabhooma And he was brought to the Arena of devotion to the territory Of devotion by Lord Chetan Mahaprabhu He converted him This is actually one of the greatest achievements Of Chetan Mahaprabhu In terms of Demonstrating to the world His Intellectual caliber Chetan Mahaprabhu is often known as a As a dancing god Who chanted and danced And inspired people to chant and dance That is true but an excessive focus on This Sankirtan aspect Sometimes causes Downplaying or Minimizing of his Intellectual contribution and his Intellectual potency. Chetan Mahaprabhu Has such intellectual potency that He Demonstrated He was debated with And he transformed Some of the greatest thinkers of his time Two of the most prominent were Here it is described Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya And later it will be described about Prakashanan Saraswati Which happened in Aranasi So the essential Meaning of this verse is that I offer obeisance to that Lord Chetan Mahaprabhu Who Converted That person Who was a hard hearted Reservoir of bad logic And brought him Who considered himself the conqueror of the world That Lord Who is the actual ruler of the world Conquered him And brought him into the territory of devotion So it's one thing to Defeat somebody I just said often that a person Convinced against his will is of the same Opinion still That sometimes people Are defeated in argument But what happens is they Still stay attached to their opinion And then they go away Feeling that their ego has been hurt And they simply go back and try to find out New arguments so that they can Come back and debate and Maintain their ego So People who are convinced Against their will, they still have the same Opinion still, that means they don't really get Converted, they are defeated but not Converted, so Chetan Mahaprabhu's glory As described over here is not just That he defeated Defeated Saram Bhattacharya But he converted Saram Bhattacharya That is Astonishing achievement Because Sometimes there can be Rounds, it's like in a Boxing match There is one round, two rounds, three rounds, four rounds So in one round somebody may be defeated But that person will come back and fight in second round And will try to Win in the second round So often even There is sometimes some argument if somebody Would be defeated, that person would Come back and debate again and not accept defeat And Chetan Mahaprabhu We see in his past time, he Did his Did his actions of Debating and Defeating Saram Bhattacharya So expertly That Saram Bhattacharya did not Feel a loss of Ego, rather he Felt transformed and elevated And Saram Bhattacharya went on to become one of the Intimate associates of Lord Chetan Mahaprabhu In his puri pastimes So to preserve The honor of a person while Removing the misconceptions Requires not just great Scholarship but great sensitivity Great compassion And Chetan Mahaprabhu Demonstrates through his past time How bad argument Can be defeated not just by good argument But also by By great Sensitivity and By gentle By humility and sensitivity Which Chetan Mahaprabhu, he heard From Saram Bhattacharya for the first seven days And later on When he also countered, he actually Right from the beginning, by his Humility, he told Saram Bhattacharya I am like your son And I don't know anything, you are elder and I am young So you please instruct me about how I should Stay fixed in sannyas And in this way, by placing himself In a humble position And by being sensitive not to directly Refute Saram Bhattacharya And by hearing from him for seven days, he opened his heart And then when Chetan Mahaprabhu spoke Then Saram Bhattacharya Was ready To give A hearing To Chetan Mahaprabhu's explanation And because his Ego was not in the defensive mode Chetan Mahaprabhu's humility and sensitivity Ensured that his ego was not Closing his intellect, just trying to defend Itself, so Chetan Mahaprabhu's Reasoning thereafter He could see the brilliance In that reasoning And the coherence of the Explanation Chetan Mahaprabhu gave He realized this was far greater than what Shankaracharya had given And thus he accepted Chetan Mahaprabhu Whose argument And not only converted to bhakti but he also Because of a special revelation of Chetan Mahaprabhu Accepted Chetan Mahaprabhu as The supreme lord and became his devotee So converting People Is not about crushing them Bhakti is not about crushing people But about converting them Or transforming them to a higher Level of understanding and a higher consciousness Through Argument as well as through compassion And sensitivity and humility.
