Srimad Bhagavatam 11.7.18 With the help of the Glorifying Lord Krishna so as to request and beseech the Lord to instruct him now describes in this verse the distinctiveness in fact the uniqueness of the Lord’s position in the previous verse he has said how everybody else is deluded and therefore the Lord alone is qualified to instruct now in this verse further the Lord’s singular glory is being described. Therefore, Bhavantam.
Bhavantam is a respectful second-person address. You don’t have any imperfections you are perfect my dear Lord. You are unlimited, you are infinite, you are not restricted by anything so your potencies are supreme, unlimited.
Sarvagyam. You are all-knowing. Eshwaram.
You are the Supreme Lord. Akuntha Vikuntha Dishyam. So your abode which is Vikuntha is Akuntha.
Kuntha is anxiety. Your abode is free from all anxiety my dear Lord. In contrast, while being in this world Nirvin Nadhir.
After trying again and again to enjoy this world and having suffered frustration and misery in this world. Nirvin Nadhir. Now renunciation, detachment is awakening in my heart.
Aham Uhehe Vrijna Abhitapto. Vrijna is misery. Abhitapto.
By the miseries I am burning. I am burning in the fire of the miseries and therefore Narayanan Narasakham Sharanam Prapadye. O Lord Narayan, who are the Narasakham, who are the best friend of the living entity unto you I surrender.
So when we are uttering, when we are chanting the holy name, we are not just uttering some sound vibration. We are actually calling out to that Lord who is Narayanan Narasakham. Who is our greatest friend.
Who is Anavadyamanantaparam. Who is perfect. Who has the best plan for providing us relief and release.
For providing us relief from the onslaught of material miseries and for providing us release ultimately from all the miseries of material existence and indeed from the whole miserable material existence itself. And he wants to take us back to his abode. So when a patient goes to a doctor, the patient is always fearful and doubtful about the competence of the doctor.
When the patient is confident that the doctor is truly competent and doctor can cure me and wants to cure me, then that itself provides a big relief to the patient. Because now the patient knows I am in safe hands. Similarly, when we understand the supreme unique qualifications of Krishna, then that provides us great relief.
Because we understand that, that increases our confidence because we know that now we are in the supremely safe hands. That Krishna is most competent, best competent to cure us. And he is most caring.
He cares more for us than anyone and everyone. And he wants to help us. He wants to help us in the best possible way by freeing us from material existence and all its associated miseries.
And he also wants to make our journey through this material existence as painless and as productive as possible. Krishna doesn’t want us to suffer. Just as a doctor never wants the patient to suffer.
But sometimes for the sake of eventual release from suffering, the doctor may have to allow some suffering or in fact inflict certain suffering as in the case of surgery. So when problems agitate us and they threaten to take our calm and concentration away while we are trying to focus our mind on Krishna during our meditation, at that time we can remember that Krishna is in charge. And though we certainly have to do various material things to take care of our material life and to do our responsibilities, but still our greatest responsibility is to cooperate with Krishna.
This is the greatest responsibility of a patient is to cooperate with a doctor. And by meditating on how our doctor is perfect and how the most important expectation the doctor has from us is to surrender to him, to fix our mind on him, to understand his will and to do his will. So chanting with its implied prayer of Krishna, offers us the best opportunity to meditate on Krishna and to connect with Krishna so that we can understand his will and get the strength to do that will.
And in that way, as much as possible, we can move quickly towards the goal that Krishna wants us to attain. The abode that is forever beyond the reach of all material misery. The abode that is forever replete with eternal and ever-increasing ecstasy.
That is Krishna’s world of love. And the holy name shows us the path to that world of love.
