If someone has lost their job suddenly, how can they take shelter of Krishna at that time? Which verses of scripture can they meditate on? Answer, some sections of scripture directly speak for addressing certain situations.
For example, you can correlate say lust with Ravan or with Ayati or Pururava. But even there, there is a matter of individual inspiration. So, rather than like a universal assertion that this scripture or this section of scripture or this verse is helpful for this particular situation, what if we read that and we don’t find it helpful? Because we are individuals and Krishna is an individual and Krishna can reciprocate with us through scripture in different ways or through different sections of scripture at different times.
So, in general, during our overall study of scripture, if we have found certain verses that are what we like, that feel us, that make us feel the presence of Krishna or certain pastimes that we like, certain philosophical points that we have found helpful, then we could meditate more on them because we already have a connect with them and we can try to see how they could be connected with our specific situation. That’s one way to find how we have already connected with Krishna and to see how that connection with Krishna can help us in our particular situation. Having said that, if we consider that Krishna, for example, in the 9th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita says, गतिर्भर्ता प्रभु साक्षि निवासः शर्णं सर्वत् प्रभप् लयस्तानं निधानं भी जमाओगये So, that is one statement which is very clearly descriptive of the many roles that Krishna plays, that God plays and one of the relevant ones is भर्ता.
He is not just our maintainer, He is also our destination. He is also our companion, He is our witness like that. That’s a beautiful verse to meditate on to understand that Krishna is present with us even now.
The pastime of Gopinath Patnaik, of course, there is involvement of his own serious mistake because of which he lost his job. But that is also, that could also be a relevant pastime for this situation. Now, within scripture we also have Arjuna, he didn’t lose his job, but he lost the ability to do his job, which is far worse when suddenly archery skills deserted him.
There may not be any specific verses which talk about his specific situation, but the principle of absorption in Krishna, especially immersion in Krishna, Krishna’s message of the Gita, it helps him to calm down, that’s also something very helpful or at least can be helpful. In the Gita further, Upadarshanamantacha 13.23 is there. Dhambuddhiogamtam is a key verse for not just having faith that Krishna will maintain us, but having faith that Krishna will guide us about what part he wants us to play.
So, the first part of the Gita, Priti Purvakam, is also important because Krishna’s guidance doesn’t just come mechanically, it comes reciprocally with our devotion. So, that’s one verse which can be very helpful in meditating on the Lord. Apart from that, any verse that talks about Krishna’s love can be helpful.
How Krishna is, if you consider Bhoktaram, Jagatapasam, the last part is Gyantvamam, Shantim Vrchati. So, in that, he’s our well-wisher at Suhrudam, that is also very helpful. We may want to look back at our lives and see when we faced adversity and how maybe through that some new doors have opened for us.
How Krishna was taking us to a better place, even if that journey went through many bitter places. And that way we can continue our, continue moving forward. You can see also how the 18th Chapter of Krishna says, Through your work, worship the Lord.
What that would mean is that just as we don’t need an altar to do worship, we can worship in our mind also. Similarly, we don’t need necessarily a workplace or a formal job to do our work. If we say that this is our Svabhav and this is our action according to Svakarma, according to Svabhava, we can still continue enhancing our skills.
so preparing the resources necessary to get a job can also be seen as a part of our job, as part of our Svakarma. And that can also be seen as a means of connecting with the Lord, of expressing our dependence on Him. This is having the same purpose and job is not according to my nature.
But nobody knows, very few people know their nature fully. But if you have been working in a influential, successful position in a competitive world, that does mean we have some ability and we use that and we grow by that. And over time, we will find more to do.
So essential the principle is that seeing Krishna as hand means so acting with service attitude means that we accept our limitation and we also accept the responsibility to do whatever we can within that situation. If we don’t accept our situation, then we are not seeing Krishna’s hand there. And we are not doing what we can, then we are not seeing that how Krishna wants us to move our hands in that situation.
These are a few verses we can meditate on. Thank you, Hare Krishna.
