Therefore, I offer my obeisances to that Lord who is Paraishya, who is the transcendental controller. He is the Brahman, the all-pervading spiritual effulgence. He is the embodiment, the reservoir of unlimited energy.
And This was the example of a paradox where contradictory things are put together to convey a deeper truth. So, The Lord has no form, the Lord has many forms. How are both possible? Such are His wonderful, amazing pastimes.
The scriptures, when they give this kind of contradictory descriptions, they often follow it up with glorification of the Lord rather than some attempted intellectual explanation of how such contradictory things are possible. In the Bhagavad Gita also, in 9.4, Krishna concludes with And then in 9.5, immediately after that, 9.5 C is If all beings are in me and all beings are not in me, how can both be true at the same time? Actually, both are true when we understand that both point to a deeper reality that reconciles both. That deeper reality is the Lord has a transcendental form.
So, from the point of view of having material form, the Lord is Arupaya. But from the point of having spiritual forms, He not only is Rupaya, but He is Urupaya. He has many, many forms.
And that is also hinted at earlier in the verse when it says This Lord is transcendental. He is not like any ordinary being that we know in this world. He is transcendental Ishwara.
So, in the previous verse, previous prayer, Pujyendra has said that although you are transcendental, you descend to this world to rescue all of us. And even when you descend, from the material perspective, you appear to have a form, but that form is not material. So, that form is transcendental.
So, Arupaya, Urupaya. It’s actually, the Lord performs amazing activities because He is Antashakta. His energies are unlimited.
So, Sri Prabhupada would often explain that both matter and spirit are Krishna’s energies. So, He can change matter into spirit if He wants. And He can get spirit to manifest through matter.
That is how deity worship becomes possible. And in a sense, that is also how we get to chant the holy name. Sometimes devotees ask, if the holy name is transcendental, then how are we able to chant the holy name? We are able to chant it because Krishna as the holy name has descended from the spiritual realm to the material realm to give us the opportunity to connect with Him.
So, Krishna is not just transcendental. His transcendental means that He is beyond matter. And He is also immense.
He manifests Himself in matter. And, He manifests Himself directly when He performs fast stanzas in this world. And He manifests as the holy name for all those people during His fast stanzas as well as at all other times to become very attracted to Him.
So, when we focus on those manifestations of Krishna, which attract our heart back to Him, we make steady spiritual advancement. And then that becomes the Ashtyare Karma. And that really will matter to us.
And Krishna lifting Govardhan is wonderful, we relish it. But we feel, okay, that happened 5000 years ago, how does it matter? But when we chant the holy name and allow Krishna to enter into our heart, then He purifies us. And the kind of material desires which we thought would never go away, they go away.
The kind of deep love for Krishna which we had thought it was just impossible for us to develop, we are able to develop that. And the formation of the heart is the real Ashtyare Karma that Krishna can do. And He wants to do it.
He wants to take us back to Govardhan. So, all that we need to do is just cooperate with Him. And chant attentively.
And let the holy name do its magic, do its Ashtyare Karma. Thank you.
